Growing up, I spent plenty of time in Burland where my parents built a summer cabin. They hauled water from the community well, at what is now Weakland Fawkes Park, and had an open-air, two-seater outhouse. My 7 siblings and I spent days exploring the area, summers fishing at Burland ponds, and winters ice skating those ponds. I moved with my daughter to Bailey in 1984. I retired from telecom after a 33+ year career, and spent the past 10 years as a law enforcement victim advocate. I served on numerous boards in the area and am looking forward to serving the community in this new capacity.

Board Vice President

Juanita Kursevich

A Bailey resident for 44 years, I feel a strong connection and commitment to our community. Since retirement, I’ve enjoyed volunteering with Park County Senior Coalition and Silverset, Inc. I also served as a director with Park County Mental Health Alliance. As an officer of the Riders’ 285 Coalition, we strived for and accomplished the construction of a permanent RTD Park-n-Ride in Pine Junction.

Maryland was my home until I was 24. In 1972, we moved our young family to Colorado and it’s always felt like home. A 30-year career at Denver law firms brought satisfaction and excitement! Retirement rocks!

Board Treasurer

Jack Roberts

I have been a resident of Bailey and the Burland Ranchettes since 2003, serving the HOA as board member, officer, and Firewise coordinator. I’m actively involved with Fire Adapted Bailey as a board member. I’ve been a member of the Mile High Dowsers since 2004. Since the Seniors Alliance of Platte Canyon inception, I actively participated in the development of guidance documents, incorporation, and non-profit status. I have served as a board member and as Treasurer. The majority of my life has been devoted to service organizations. I love the Bailey area. It has been my goal to ensure that our community and the people who live here are well-cared-for and thriving.

We raised our four children in Arvada, CO. After retiring, we found our forever home in Bailey, CO. We love the area and are happy to be here.

After working with Foster Children in Jefferson County for 30 years, I find my interest is in senior resources.

The Platte Canyon area does not have enough resources for seniors. I got involved with the Seniors Alliance of Platte Canyon to help find or provide more resources for seniors. Like other seniors, we want to be able to stay in our home.

I was born and raised in the small remote town of Danforth, Maine. I graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Elementary Education in 1975 and received my Master’s in Education and School Administration in 2003. I have been in the field of education for 43+ years. Although I am now retired from K-12 education, I continue to work with teachers online facilitating courses through Dominican University of California and the University of Massachusetts Global. Colorado has been my home for 26+ years and I have lived in Bailey for 11 years. For fun, I enjoy creating art and engaging in outdoor activities.

Director

Penny Everest

Since starting with the Coalition two years ago I find that this job is extremely rewarding.

Prior to retirement:
Ms. Everest joined the Valiant team in 1994 as a Senior Credit Analyst. As a result of a strong work ethic, pro-active career development and demonstrated skill in managing the company’s risk, she was promoted to Director of Financial Services in 2000. With 36 years of experience in credit and finance and over 20 years of experience in Hospitality; Ms. Everest manages the credit services, approval process and collections of the company, offering credit insights and solutions for Valiant clients. Ms. Everest has sat on the board of directors for the National Association of Credit Management and the Credit & Financial Development Division of the NACM.

My husband and I feel very fortunate to live in the Platte Canyon community. Professionally, I was a pediatric nurse for over 40 years including 23 years as a school nurse. Upon moving here and hearing of the issues facing seniors who want to age in place in rural communities, I was able to shift focus and utilize public health knowledge and skills to connect seniors to resources. I believe that with appropriate support, “seasoned” adults may successfully age in place in rural areas.

I have lived in Park County for the past 25 years; I’m a retired R.N., a retired Victim Advocate and to keep from being bored, I volunteer for the PCCP Boutique. I am also a member of the Park County Mental Health Alliance. I’ve been aware of the lack of resources for Seniors in the Bailey area, so I was excited to see a group of local citizens organizing to explore opportunities to improve our local services. I feel privileged to be a part of the initial start-up of the Seniors Alliance of Platte Canyon.
